Anniversary luncheon celebrates 11 years

More than 200 supporters came out to commemorate Joseph’s Home 11th anniversary at a June 30 luncheon celebration at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Independence, Ohio. Guests enjoyed lunch, a keynote address from Cuyahoga Community College Metropolitan Campus President Dr. Michael Schoop and a unique art show featuring paintings created by Joseph’s Home residents.

Guests bid on a variety of donated gift baskets and could purchase all-occasion cards and coasters featuring resident artwork. Dr. Schoop gave an inspiring presentation about the tools needed for people to attain self-actualization and independence. Joseph’s Home Board Chair Dick Clough welcomed guests and provided the closing remarks. Joseph’s Home Executive Director Georgette Jackson presented the inaugural “Making a Difference” Community Partnership Award to Congressman Dennis Kucinich and his staff, who have worked tirelessly to help residents of Joseph’s Home navigate through various social service agencies to acquire benefits. Staff member Laurie Rokakis accepted the award on behalf of Congressman Kucinich, who was unable to attend but sent a video acceptance.

The luncheon raised $12,000, which is being used to support operations. Joseph’s Home also received a surprise donation of $50,000 at the luncheon from Terry and MJ Poltorek and Jack and Tina Schwab in memory of their beloved stepfather Nick Grigalizek.
