Feast of St. Joseph Commences 10th Anniversary Festivities
Joseph’s Home kicked off its year-long, 10th Anniversary celebration on March 19th with a mass to honor the Feast of St. Joseph. About 45 people attended the beautiful program led by Rev. Joseph T. Hilinski, in the Holy Trinity Chapel at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. Guests included Joseph’s Home staff, board members, SCHS administrators, donors and supporters. Immediately following mass guests enjoyed refreshments in the St. Vincent De Paul room including a beautifully decorated (and delicious) cake honoring Joseph’s Home’s baked by the skilled hands of Sr. Mary Dorothy Tecca, CSA.
The mass commenced the year-long observance of the founding of Joseph’s Home which cares for homeless men with acute health problems; a segment of society previously underserved. In 2000, Sr. Joan Gallagher, CSA, Sr. Regina Fierman, CSA, and other members of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine felt the call to help these seriously ill men who were being discharged from area hospitals to recuperate on the streets of the city. Through the fierce determination of these women, Joseph’s Home was established as a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System and has provided a caring and safe environment for over 400 men during the past decade.
